We expect you at the camp at 19:00, which is the recommended time of arrival. Upon arrival at the camp you will sign up at the reception and get your room keys. Enjoy and share over a hearty homemade meal in our restaurant. The menu includes stuffed peppers, cabbage rolls, homemade stew, grilled trout, and more.
After dinner you will meet with your trip leader, who is responsible for organizing the expedition. You will have the opportunity to go over the itinerary for the next few days and ask questions, and you will go to bed confident in your knowledge of everything that you will encounter on your adventure. Finally, in the evening at our restaurant we will always offer you a good time, including but not limited to a campfire and music.
Early in the morning on the second day we finish our final preparations and embark on a journey to Sljivansko, the first location where the Tara becomes navigable and the starting point of our expedition through the deepest canyon in Europe! We eat breakfest at our restaurant and drive our jeeps over the Piva mountain, Durmitor and Zabljak. Along the way we’ll stop at some great vantage points, enjoy the views, and take some photos. When we arrive at Šljivansko, a place deep in the interior of Montenegro on the road Zabljak – Mojkovac, each passenger will receive the necessary rafting equipment. Required rafting equipment includes a helmet, life jacket and paddle, and accessories that you receive include a neoprene suit and neoprene boots. We will have a picnic lunch before setting out on the river, with the plan for the day to cover approximately 40% of the canyon, 4-7h of rafting.
On the second day of the expedition we pass beneath the majestic bridge Djurdjevica Tara (approx 145m ), which spans the Tara River and looks as though it has grown out of the stunning nature that surrounds it . Immediately afterwards, we will find ourselves in the River Ljutice canyon, the shortest river in the world, which comes out of the rocks with enormous speed and pressure and cascades into the Tara. We will also see the Trešnjevičke beach, Crna vrela waterfall, Bijela vrela waterfall, Angel waterfall, Obodina waterfall, Masov spring, White spring, and Black spring. We will pass the Lazin stone, where Tara is at its deepest and most narrow part! Ninkovića port, numerous speleothems, and river Drage are all a part of the last stretch on the wat to Radovan’s Luka, our camp where we will spend the first night. Radovan’s Luka features a motel built deep in the wildlife of the Tara Canyon, and maintained through the practice of many intelligent and noteworthy environmental management systems.
Picture your evening at Radovan’s Luka, deep in the Tara canyon, cut off from civilization, and with a nice dinner and evening entertainment backed by the soothing sound of the river.
The next day after breakfast we continue our rafting adventure! We will spend about the same amount of time on the river as the previous day (4-7 hours depending on breaks), and we will cover the remaining 60% of the river.
After the first two waterfalls of the day, waterfall Djurasice and waterfall Gradine, we encounter Brawl Beach and pass under the old pedestrian bridge at Tepca. In Tepca, in a place called Obzir, the Tara canyon walls seemingly reach up into the clouds and disappear at its maximum depth of about 1400m; this is where you can officially say you are in the deepest canyon in Europe! After Šiljevačkog and waterfall Lizavice we come to Bajlovića siga, or the gems of the Tara Canyon– waterfalls that are about 100 meters apart and 30 meters high. Bajlovića stalactites are a unique natural phenomenon, and the moss-covered rocks definitely leave a lasting impression. In fact, a distance from the waterfall there is a huge cave with a deep hidden lake. You won’t ever forget the sight of the beautiful waterfall hidden in the cave, springing from the rocks, and plunging into the depths of the secret lake. And last but not least, the Sušica Canyon, Markovic mill, Jovicic and Ninkovića siga, and the Nozdrućkih rapids leave us breathless and bring us to our last section of rafting for the day.
The last 20 km of rafting from Brštanovice onward features the most exciting rapids of the Tara river. The Brštenovački and Borovi rapids are the longest and most dangerous rapids, followed by Varda rapids, Celije, Mladički rapids, Vjernović rapids, Grab rapids and then the Crazy springs– another 20m waterfall jewel. Immediately after Manitih springs comes Uzlup, where the dam used to be. The skeleton of the construction marks the place where they once felled and moved logs down the river. Today the dam is gone, destroyed by a huge flood, and its remains can be seen on the river bed. After Uzulp we come to Šipčanič beach and Šipčaničkog streams and waterfalls, where even in the hottest summer months the water temperature does not exceed 4 degrees Celsius! The last few rapids bring us to the end of the Tara and the confluence of the Piva, where the two rivers join and create the Drina River. From this point we have a final few kilometers on the Drina, which brings us to the shores of Tara-Raft… back to our original starting point.
We will arrive back at Tara-Raft in the afternoon where there will be a warm lunch waiting for us. The menu for the day isn’t any less exciting than the rest of the adventure and features our most delicious house specialty – “Zalogaj sa Tare” – to bring a symbolic conclusion to the expedition.
